YAHWEH - The Self-Existent One, The I AM, The LORD
The Sacred, Unutterable, Personal Name of God
FOUNDATION SCRIPTURE FOR OUR 21 DAY JOURNEY: “It is of the LORD’s [YAHWEH’s] mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” (Lam. 3:22-23)
Today we will meditate upon the MOST HOLY NAME OF ALL, the unutterable name of the God of Israel. The Name “Yahweh” is composed of the four Hebrew letters “yod, heh, vod, hey” which simply means “the four letters”. YHVH refers to the very essence of God. The most frequently appearing name, YAHWEH occurs more than 6800 times in scripture. The “I AM that I AM” is translated in the KJV as “JEHOVAH”. Whereas the first mention of ELOHIM referred to the all powerful, creative nature of God, the first mention of YAHWEH expresses the closeness of God to humans. “The LORD God [YAHWEH ELOHIM] formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath [RUACH] of life; and man became a living soul” (Gen. 2:7). Therefore, let us “draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (Heb. 10:22). Our “Covenant Keeping” LORD longs to reveal Himself as “a friend that sticketh closer than a brother” (Prov. 18:24).

Exodus 3:14-15 And God [Elohim] said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. And God [Elohim] said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God [YAHWEH ELOHIM] of your fathers, the God [Elohim] of Abraham, the God [Elohim] of Isaac, and the God [Elohim] of Jacob hath sent me unto you: This is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.
Psalm 34:1-8 I will bless the LORD [YAHWEH] at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD [YAHWEH]: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD [YAHWEH] with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD [YAHWEH], and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD [YAHWEH] heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD [YAHWEH] encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. O taste and see that the LORD [YAHWEH] is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Psalm 112:1-7 Praise ye the LORD [YAHWEH]. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD [YAHWEH],that delighteth greatly in His commandments. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth forever. Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous. A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion. Surely he shall not be moved forever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD [YAHWEH].
