Here are a few questions I've been pondering....
What if Jesus' role as High Priest relates to his intercessory role rather than his mediatory role? How would that affect our understanding of the true nature of intercession in the "under priest role" we share, that of "the priesthood of the believer "?
Remember the entire Jewish priesthood, even the High Priest were not mediators, but intercessors for the nation of Israel, and subsequently, the nations of the earth.
Therefore, have we not been called to "intercede for the nations"? And if so, why are we not praying that way?
I'm not looking for a debate, just trying to postulate on these things.
Hebrews Chapters 7 & 8... 1. High Priest after the order of Melchizedek (Ps. 110), not the Aaronic- Levitical priesthood. 2. He is a King Priest, were as, we are called "a kingdom of priests"(Rev.5:10). 3. He is the Atonement and Sacrifice ( Is. 53). 4. He holds His priesthood permanently, forever. 5. He offered up HIS BLOOD ONCE for all when He offered up Himself. Therefore, He saves forever. 6. He now is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the sanctuary and true tabernacle.(Key is in 7:25 and 8:1-2). 7. He is the "guarantee of a better covenant", The New Covenant. 8. He is ALSO the mediator of a better covenant, which HAS BEEN enacted on better promises. ( It's finished, once and for all time). Therefore, if He is now sits at the right hand (Ps.110), and completed His sacrifice as the sacrificial lamb (Is.53), and His priesthood is forever, is He not NOW functioning in an intercessory role, as both King Priest. He has "completed the role" as mediator, because He does not continually offer up His Blood. It is finished. The New Covenant is established and based on that covenant we now serve with Him as a kingdom of priest in the ministry of intercession. Just food for thought......
